Clonakilty, West Cork

Clonakilty is a wonderful and welcoming town full of character. It is flush with colour from the traditional shop fronts to the many flowers and plants blooming along the narrow bustling streets. Winner of the European Destination of Excellence Award (EDEN) as the best emerging Rural Tourism Destination and features annually in the National Tidy Towns competition. The town is renowned for its good food and live music in pubs.

Step back in time when you visit the West Cork Model Village and see life as it was in the 1940’s. The old West Cork Railway line is portrayed in delightful miniature. The ‘Tschu Tschu’ road train tours are popular with children and adults alike.

Those interested in history will want to visit the birthplace of Michael Collins at Sam’s Cross, the Michael Collins Centre in Castleview and Michael Collins Memorial Statue in Clonakilty town centre. The West Cork Museum located in the town is well worth a visit.
